How do I get started?
1. If possible, go to the DPS website on the links tab, fill out the form to order your packet and pay your Texas CHL fee. This should to be done ASAP as it takes several weeks for you to receive your packet. It is no longer necessary to order your Application Packet ahead of time online. We will have packets available.
If you choose to, You can fill out the form online and pay with credit card, or print the form, fill it out and mail it in with your money or send you money with the packet you mail in after you have completed the class.
The fee is $140.00 or $70.00 60 years of age and over.
Renewals are $70.00 or $35.00 60 years of age and over.
These fees are non-refundable.
Your class fee is a separate fee.

2. You must be at least 21 years of age (18 years of age if you qualify as a honorably discharged veteran or active member of the United States armed forces including a member or veteran of the reserves or national guard), and have the following:
*Social Security Number
*Texas Driver License or Texas Identification card
*If filing online, you will need a credit card
3. Once you have received your packet, call us at 903-838-5519 or email safegunsoftexas@cableone.net and we will set up a time to help you fill out the paperwork, do fingerprinting, and take your photo. This will be done prior to the date of the class. Class fee will be paid at this time.

What do I need for the class?
1. Bring your packet you receive from the DPS.
2. Wear comfortable clothing. (Very relaxed atmosphere)
3. You will need a gun .32 caliber or greater, in good repair with no modifications that would make it unsafe. Guns are available for rent (you must reserve ahead of time, ammunition is not provided).
*If you shoot with a semiautomatic, you will qualify to carry any legal
handgun.
*If you shoot with a revolver, you will only be able to carry a revolver.
4. Do not bring ammunition to class. Bring an unloaded gun and empty magazine.
5. Bring your holster if you have one, we will be using it in class.
6. I will inspect all range equipment before going to the range for your protection.

What if I have never used a handgun before?
We recomend you take our NRA Basic Handgun Safety class first.

What do I need to take to the range?
1. You will need a gun .32 caliber or greater, in good repair with no modifications that would make it unsafe. Guns are available for rent (you must reserve ahead of time, ammunition is not provided).
*If you shoot with a semiautomatic, you will qualify to carry any legal
handgun.
*If you shoot with a revolver, you will only be able to carry a revolver.
2. Bring 50 rounds of ammunition. If you do not qualify on the first attempt, you will need an additional 50 rounds. Ammunition must be new factory loads. No reloads will be allowed. Guns and ammunition will be inspected prior to shooting.
3. When going to the gun range the following dress code must be followed for your protection from flying hot brass:
*Shoes must cover the foot - no sandals
*Wear long pants, slacks or jeans
*Wear a shirt or blouse with a fairly high collar (ladies, no low cut
blouses.
*Wear a cap or hat that will cover your head and protect your face.
*Bring industrial or sport protective eyewear.
*We recommend ear protection that covers your ears (earmuff type).
You may wear foam earplugs if that is your preference.
4. Bring your holster if you have one.
5. I will inspect all range equipment at the range for your protection.
